27 Jan A Rich Narrative and Canvas
This amazing artist, Michael Armitage, depicts social events in contemporary Kenya. Armitage deals with these issues using a dreamlike style that I imagine resembles the landscape of East Africa. I love the bold and beautiful colors of these brave yet vulnerable figures.
I also love the little abstract geometric paintings embedded into the whole canvas. This adds to the complexity and enhances the artist’s abstract figurative style. Armitage’s expressionist aesthetic creates both an emotional and engaged response for me, and I can’t help but feel connected to the land and people.
